Monika Welle
Professor Dr. Monika Welle studied veterinary medicine in Berlin and Munich. After completing her thesis, she worked as a general practitioner for two years. She then joined the Institute of Veterinary Pathology in Berlin, where she qualified as a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists. She then moved to the Institute of Veterinary Pathology at the Vetsuisse Faculty in Bern, Switzerland. Working under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Maja Suter and Claudia von Tscharner, she discovered her passion for dermatopathology.
She headed the biopsy service in Bern for many years, during which time she was involved in research, diagnostic pathology and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Her primary research interest lies in dermatopathology, particularly hair cycle disorders and genodermatoses. She has twice been a board member and president of the International Society for Veterinary Dermatopathology, and is a former member of the ECVD Exam Committee. She is the author or co-author of over 160 peer-reviewed publications and has delivered more than 100 invited lectures and case presentations at meetings and workshops.
She is the co-author of the integument chapter in the 7th and 8th editions of Pathologic Basis of Veterinary Disease and the 7th edition of Jubb, Kennedy & Palmers's Pathology of Domestic Animals.
Since retiring, she has remained active in postgraduate teaching and research.
