Vanessa Barrs

Prof. Vanessa Barrs BVSc(hons) PhD MVetClinStud FANZCVS(Feline Medicine)
Vanessa Barrs is a registered specialist in feline medicine and a Chair Professor of Veterinary Medicine at Hong Kong’s first Veterinary School, the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, established in partnership with Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Before moving to Hong Kong in 2019, Vanessa was Head of Small Animal Medicine at The University of Sydney and Director of their Veterinary Teaching Hospital. She is a past president of the Feline Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists and of the International Society of Companion Animal Infectious Diseases. Prof. Barrs is well known for her infectious diseases research and discovered Aspergillus felis, which can cause severe disease in cats, dogs and humans. She has published over 200 manuscripts and book chapters. Vanessa is passionate about improving the health and welfare of animals and owns two second-hand cats, Joey and Ginger Roger.
